So today I started out by waking up at 10 when I wanted to be up at 7...

I saw an add on CL posted late yesterday for a boat that "had" to sell today (guy was being evicted).

It was a 1989 Robalo 18Ft. CC, with an 89 150HP Johnson, and Aluminum Drive on trailer...

The guy was asking 700 OBO no reasonable offer refused because it "Had" to go today... So I had two other boat deals I wanted to check out in Pinellas county, so I called the guy this morning, he still had the boat, told him I was On my way, but it would be three hours before I could get there... he said, its first come first serve... ok well I will give it a shot...

I had to go down to look at the two other boats anyways...

So as I get about 30mins from the place... the guy calls and tells me its sold... first person who looked at it, slurped it right up and drove off with it... AHHHhh I am postive I could have re-listed this for at least 1500 and gotten it No problem...

Dangit!

Ok on to boat #2... it was 1976 Manatee Tri-hull that was completely wasted, but I wanted it for the motor... the guy was asking 500 for boat/motor/trailer and after I ran a compression test on the motor (was excellent) I told him it had this this this and that wrong, and would give him 300 and haul everything off, he agreed, so I bought that one... got me a nice 1976 Johnson "Stinger" 75hp... all it needs is a starter solonoid hehe...

OK on to deal #3... this was for a 1971 Airslot tri-hull, with a 1985 Johnons 90HP on it... galvanized trailer, and the guy said he would throw in a spare 1972 Mercury 80hp... all for 275bucks ... wow ok...

I get there, and the boat is in shambles... deck is out, and its nothing but a giant rot fest... trailer is rusted through with cancer so bad, I would be leary towing it to the scrap place... and the two motors looked like they had been fished out of the bay... the johnson was locked up completely, and so salt corroded everywhere I could hardly tell what was metal, and what was salt... the merc had had a "small" electrical fire... um yeah, there wasn't a single wire left on it...

Told the guy sorry, but no thanks... so my 6 hour (round trip) drive netted me one motor... grrrr still so mad about that robalo...

So I get home and decide to burn some stuff (debris from clearing my property)... while walking around in the dark, I shin myself on an old rusty tire rim.... gashed it down to the bone... and it wont stop bleeding... ugh... here is a pic of the nastyness:

cut002.jpg

(I cut the size down to make it not so big... its kinda nasty hehe)

So here I am ... bleeding... and mad because I lost out on a great boat deal... the other was junk, and I ended up with "another" project motor hehe

Few days ago, I got roof cement in my eye... when will it end!!

Sorry to keep complaining lol... just looking for the bright light at the end of the tunnel!

I think I need some new luck soon!

Hey at least the bleeding has pretty much stopped now...

A bandaid, some neosporin, and I am good to go! ;)

That light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. :D

If it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. :(

Lost out on one boat, another one a waste of time, and a shin gash. That's
3, so you should be due for some good luck soon! :D

Wow..... I feel your pain.

You really should just build a fire big enough to light the yard!!

I used to tell my kids when they got cut and scrapes no matter how deep. Just to make them feel better ," Awh man, I had worse than that in My eyeball." Funny thing is I heard my daughter tell one of her kids the same thing last week...

you know this is the same thing I thought...???

from the way you worded your first post it seems you were only interested in the 1st boat for profit and not use...bad karma here...housing market anyone...???

that made you upset...hmmm some one may have genuinely wanted that boat for use but if you got there 1st it would have cost them double for nothing...thats what I got....

next...you mentioned to told the person you bought his boat that there was more wrong with the boat than was actually wrong with it..again for personal gain....??? again karma is adding up on you...

3rd boat bagged and deemed useless and passed on...

and then you hurt yourself and am mad about the whole day....you ever wonder if someone isnt telling you something...???

not to bag on you personally at all but there is a saying...what comes around goes around...I live by that...ALWAYS...treat others the way you'd like to be treated...

when you sell a boat how are you going to deal with someone like you telling you what you told Mr. Boater #2 when you know it aint true....

that was a 50/50 chance at best that he didnt know what you were talking about and you prayed on his ignorance no less....

honesty is the best policy my friend...trust me you'll live much better and prolly wont get hurt as much....

you're not by any chance a politician are you...???

Re: Another fun filled Numlaar day...

Bowtie...

hehe no I am not a politician, but you are probably close to correct on some points, and I appreciate your point of view... but there is more to the story than just what I posted above... I do actually believe in being honest, and usually am. Sometimes unique situations present themselves, and you have to make a moral decision on how to proceed...

Yes the first boat, I was after strictly to make a profit from... I have been out of work for 7 months... I am always the first guy to offer a lending hand, and helping others who are worse off than me... (In many many ways), but sadly the tables have reversed a bit, and now I am looking for ways to make some money while trying to find work...

If I take advantage of a situation, then so be it... I have been left with little choice... I do not believe in living off of the Government... and while I am sure I could easily apply for unemployment, welfare, food stamps, and living assistance for power bills, etc.), I refuse too unless I have absolutely no alternative.

The first boat would have given me a chance to make some money, and the guy that was selling it, knew quite well, that he was selling it far below value, because it "had" to go that day.... and that was His choice. He could have opted to put it in storage, kept it at a friends, whatever... he decided to go for the quick sale... and I am sorry I was a bit slow getting there... whoever got it, got an extremely good deal.

The second boat, I did not feel I took advantage either... I used my technical knowledge to point out the obvious problems, talk the guy down to a "fair" price, and he agreed... the boat is junk, so is the trailer, I only wanted the OB... and even at 300 bucks, I will still be hard pressed to make a little off of it.. it needs a solonoid, the controls rebuilt (guy tried to hotwire it and fried everything), impeller, entire new paint job, and probably carbs gone through from sitting... its may be a 750 dollar motor once its all fixed, which I will have probably 500 into for cost (plus my time), to fix it up to sell. Again I don't think I am being overly "evil" in trying to make a little from the repair, and I think it was a fair price. The guy needed it gone from his yard as well (city was giving him issues), and he agreed with me on the bad points about the motor (he watched me do the compression check on it), and saw everything I pointed out as being bad, and I didn't "lie" about what was bad... I merely talked him down in the value of the motor... and maybe that part I stretched the truth a "little", but not by much... whats a non running, 33 year old, No PTT motor worth? Not much... yes it will be worth more when running, and I can do the work, where he would have had to pay someone... thats the only difference, and the reason I may be able to make a little profit from it... So again, not taking advantage IMO. (This is a capitalistic society is it not?).

So all told, yes I was upset about having lost out on the first boat... it would have been a quick easy re-sale for a profit.. but I am only doing what I have to, while out of work, to make money for my family... so if that is "bad karma", then I guess I will have to live with it, (along with the busted shin). :)

Its getting a little better btw... but I really should have had it stitched.... its going to leave one helluva scar! Oh well, too late now!

Anyway, just wanted you to hear a little more about what was going on.. I don't like people thinking bad of me.

I hope that clears things up... and if you still think your original opinion is correct then so be it, but at least I have said what I wanted.

:)

Hey Num, just kidding there ... but that was good spin!

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist! I am glad the shin is feeling better. That to hurt! YIKES!

Be careful, now, and you should have all the bad luck out of the way so that new job can open up.

Re: Another fun filled Numlaar day...

hey I understand....

I am in the same boat with no work and I run 3 small businesses....

like I said that is what I got from the post...

I live life a little different I would have bought the boat myself and probably made only a 100.00 off it...and not much more...thats just the way I am...

This is probably the reason I am not rich nor will I be...but I do sleep well at night...because I feel I did right...

the whole work thing sucks we are still very high in the un-employment rate here...and no jobs...phone quit ringing long ago...and I am not sticking my neck out for what could be or might be...

but I do know everyone has to do what they have to to get by...like I said I wasnt bagging on you, just implied what I got from the post...:)

usually things just work out for me so I am ok with passing things up...
