When my motor is turned off and boat is in the water, gas shows up on the surface of the water constantly and this does not stop. There is a fair amount that shows up on the water surface on an ongoing basis when my motor is turned off. I seem to go through gas very quickly also. It is a 2-stroke. Is this normal? I realize that some unburned gas will show up on the surface but there is an abnormal amount it seems and it doesn't stop leaking out.

I saw this post after reading the other one. By chance did this gas start showing up after the unknown part flew into the lake?

Nope, fuel has been doing that for awhile now. Motor is new to me so I don't know how long.

Can you tell where on the motor the fuel is leaking from? and what type of boat is this? Tiller steer? Generally if there is any unburnt fuel passing through the motor there wont be too much and is normally found in the exuaust. You need to find the fuel leak to make sure the fuel mixture isn't becoming too lean. Try cleaning the motor really well, wiping up all the fuel under the cowling and watching the motor run with the cowling off. See if you can find the leaks.

Two strokes don't pump or draw fuel when their not running. Your fuel leak is comming from a leaking fuel line and running down the mid section of the motor into the water. It might also be running down the pivot tube or the shift tube. In any case, you need to find it and fix it before you have a fire.
