FORGOT TO OPEN THE STUPID VENT Club
Was trying out our new to us deck boat which has 2 6 gal plastic gas tanks- Good so far, but ran low on gas on the first so switched to second - no problem (ya'll know where this is going- right)
Was having WOT problems but still running pretty good, stopped to fish a spell & decided to pump the bulb to check it out- No pressure at all
No big deal, I'll get a new one & check for leaks before next trip out (still pretty pleased with our new little deck boat )
Got home & pulled out both tanks & saw the one I was last on was caved in till it looked like a 2gal instead of a 6gal
Good news is i guess my fuel pump is working good

Dern motor kept starting back up & run OK at slow speed :(

What boat gas tanks have vents that you must open and close? Are these the portable red tanks you always see for the smaller outboard motors? I have been on lots of boats but never had one with a gas vent I needed to be aware of.

Re: Do We Have A Club Called---

I humbly accept my nomination to the club.

Earlier this year I went camping and was the first up to do some fishing in the morning. Headed out on my own, the 'new to me' 7.5 started right up and I motored out a bit and it died. I could get it to start but would die right away. tinkered with the choke and whatever I could find. By this time the wind has pushed me down lake a bit (although it was a fairly small lake) and I get the paddle out and go to shore, hop out and work my way back to camp with me pulling the boat. As soon as I get back to camp, it hits me. Metal gas tank and I forgot to open the vent. D'oh!
I guess plastic tanks will collapse inward and the engine keeps running, metal cans just stop running

Ok, place me in this club also. The sad part is.... I did it twice... on back-to-back outings. I always remember to open the vent on the first tank, but then when I switch, I get in a hurry and forget to open the second vent. I thought for sure that something was wrong with my engine, then I went ahhh-haaaa.

I did this, on my first boat 18 years ago, when I was only 18 years old. 80hp Merc, and 2 steel tanks, and I was "stranded" on the lake not sure what to do... finally figured it out myself after cranking the engine and priming the bulb for 20 minutes... lol. Never did it again!

I used to have a small Power Cat with two of these steel tanks. There were many times that I switched tanks and forgot to open the vent. I would go about a 100 yards after switching and the engine would die. Knew what I forgot to do every time! DOH!

Hey Boss, I really like your sign. Unfortunately, I would need to put "OPEN THE STUPID" before the word VENT. I have to make things a simple as I can because the older I get, the harder it is to remember. Now where is my jeri ...gera.... jerraa... my dang memory pills.

On another topic, is that a new boat, or have you always had it?

Sign me up, too. I went out Sunday evening and the boat ran OK. I came home and then put the boat away until last night (Thursday). Last night, I checked the tank before I went out. Plastic 6 gallon tank now looks like Boss Hawg's. So how long will it take to return to its original form?

Re: Do We Have A Club Called---

Only thing worse then forgetting to open the vent, is forgedting to close it, and having water get in the gas!!!

We have a boat with a portable can at our club, it only gets used for a couple of weeks in the spring and fall, every fall the dam thing won't run. Then someone remembers to get empty the tank and get fresh gas and it works fine.

Water + Gas = no run!
