Tach Install

I Bought A Tach For A Boat Today, I Would Like To Know How To Wire It Properly. On The Back It Has Three Posts They Are Labled ,ing, Send, Ground. I Am Hooking This To A 72 Model Chrysler 105 Hp. What Wires Go Where Or To What Color?

If it has the prestolite ignition you will need a 20 pole special chrysler tach. Then you just hook to the tach wire on motor, and the ground and light to dash wiring.

You need:
-Power (usually Red, from ignition ideally)
-Negative (ground): Easy to find and of course, black.
-Signal- Often i'd as a purple wire going back to the rectifier on the motor (thanks John!!), but you should find this run forward up under the dash in your wiring harness.

ps: Oh yes, and as was stated...your new tach has to have a 20 pole setting on the back. If it is a 12 pole it won't work.

Is this the same for a 88 force.. Do I need a 20 pole tach??

Also I see the purple wire in the engine compartment, and it goes into the tube towards the front... Should the other end be in the console somewhere?

I DIDNT SEE ANY THING ON THE ENGINE THAT SAYS PRESTOLITE. BUT I SEEN ON THE HOOD IT SAYS MAGNA POWER ING. IS THAT THE SAME? I READ SOME WHERE THAT THEY MADE A MAGNA POWER II. ALSO ON THE SIDE OF THE BLOCK IT HAS A WIRING CHART. WHITE IS TACH ,BLUE IS GEN, PURPLE IS ING , YELLOW IS START AND BLACK IS GROUND, RED IS 12V HOT. AS BEST AS I CAN REMEMBER, CAN I WIRE TO THE WIRES WHERE THE COME INTO THE KEY SWITCH? AND WHAT DOES 20 POLE MEAN? THE GUY I BOUGHT IT OFF OF SAID IT WAS WHAT I NEEDED, I TOLD HIM IT WAS A 72 MODEL 105 HP. I KNOW THAT DOESNT MAKE THE TACH WORK, IT JUST MAKES THAT DUDE A GOOD SALESMAN. HOPE I DIDNT GET TOOK

It might be a chrysler tach, IIRC mine didn't have any settings it only works on chryslers/force.
