Hello,
Looking for complete service manuals for 1999 Volvo 5.0GL with SX drive. numbers on motor 4110172203 and I believe drive number is 3868944. Please advise if I'm providing the wrong #'s.
I bought this boat today quite cheap due to a disclosed "cracked engine block" per the owner, expecting to do a 5.7 swap. HOWEVER, I'm not so convinced after getting home and doing some of my own troubleshooting on muffs in the driveway. I see no external cracks, no sign of water in oil, plugs and piston tops all have similar carbon and no obvious signs they've been internally steam-cleaned by burning lake water, compression is between 165 and 173 in all 8 holes, and the engine turns over and runs nice and quiet and smooth when I manually feed gasoline into the carb until the float bowl runs empty, then it obviously dies. I know ZERO about history of this boat, so I want to systematically troubleshoot and make my own determination of what it needs before blindly putting in a motor based on "I was told this is what it needs..." information.
Going back to the ever-true spark/compression/fuel formula, and having confirmed good compression and spark, I have never heard the electric fuel pump run, and the float bowls are running dry. Reset button at the pump did nothing. So fuel delivery is where I'd like to start trouble-shooting. Any quick tips on testing this pump would be great in the meantime, until I get my own study materials.
And yes, there's fuel in the tank. Age/condition? Who knows. I intend to drain and put in some fresh just in case...but if the pump ain't spinning, even bad fuel can't get to the carb....so I still gotta figure out why that's not happening.
Alas, I'll be expecting other problems to crop up in the near future, so regardless of tips given here, I'd like to get full service manuals. Available on-line anywhere? If no, where can I buy for best price?
Thanks.
