Hi guys,great site btw
I was recently given a 60 hp evinrude 1984(E60TLCRE)after being told"it just cut out on me and wouldnt start"
After checking the compressions(150psi each cylinder) i noticed there was no spark. Also there is a fair chunk out of the skeg but the prop seems ok.
After a little investigation i noticed a couple of broken wires and renewed them...hey presto i had a spark.
I then popped my muffs on her, applied fuel and proceeded to crank her over, albeit rather slowly. She gave a couple of promising coughs. Then the engine seemed to speed up and she burst into life sounding good for around 20 seconds(also pumping water from the pee pipe) then she cut out.
I tried to crank her over again but the starter moved very slowly.I put booster leads onto my battery but it made no difference, and the starter got rather hot.
I removed the spark plugs then tried turning the flywheel by hand and noticed it was very difficult.Although it turns fairly freely anticlockwise. The more turns towards clockwise i move the flywheel the tighter it seems to get,yet anticlockwise is no problem
Id appreciate any suggestions you have regards what may be wrong and your advice on whether or not to throw any more hard earned money towards it or just cut my losses and scrap it
