its an 88 sunbird 4.3 omc cobra outdrive. with the motor out and the outdrive off i am under the impression that all i neede to do is unbolt the six nuts from the studs going through to the outer gimbal housing and pull the thing off. However with these and just about everything else i can see off I cannot seem to get the two to seperate (inner wont budge nor will the outer) can anyone tell me what i am missing here?

Re: Cannot Remove Gimbal Housing

Exhaust Y pipe is off as well as the steering ram. The only things left bolted on are the steering arm (mounted to the top of the outer gimbal housing) and the hydraulic lines that feed the tubes but I don?t see that these would prevent the two from separating. I have beat on both sides with a mallet, tried prying on them with a crowbar it just seems like something else is holding them on but I can?t see it. Any help is appriciated as I am about to attack the outer with a cut off wheel (it is ruined anyway).
