Hello.

I am looking into buying a ski boat that has a 2004 5.0 Mercruiser (220 HP) inboard motor. Turned it on with the ear muffs and noticed a few things I am not sure if they are normal or not.

There is water squirting out some holes on the side of the motor about mid way down .. in addition, I noticed there is a small nozzle on the front bottom side of the motor that shoots water out. The nozzle I am assuming that is suppose to be connected to a hose that would direct the squirt out side the hull, is this correct? I am not sure if the water coming out the side of the motor is suppose be like that. Any help would be great! I do not want to make a $12K mistake.

No it is not normal either there are some block drains open on the side(s) of the block or the block is cracked. The nipple on front, is it a hose nipple ? A water drain ? is there a hose nearby ?

Good luck with those things, maybe get possible boats checked by a marine mechanic before buying, a $12,000 boat is worth getting a good opinion/inspection on.

Thank you very much for the advice. I am in the process of looking for a marine mechanic. The front drain looks like its a hose drain but I did not see a hose anywhere near by. The other leaks did not appear to be from crack.. more like the bolts/plugs... I turned the motor on and it ran fine.. would it still run fine if the block was cracked?

Thank you very much!

Yea it could run fine but hopefully like you said ita just water drains. I think a 2004 uses little plastic plugs.
