anything else you can throw on about it easy hard to work on. my farthest experience so far is a 1961 mercury 500. 150hp is a big step for me

You probably have a good old carb, ADI ignition motor with 6 carbs. Have the gearcase pressure and vacuumed tested when the gear oil is changed. If you want to change the seals, good idea, you need special tools to disassemble the lower unit.
Removing the oil injection isn't hard and would probably be a good idea on that engine. Replace all the fuel lines and rebuild the fuel pump while you are at it.
Change the thermostats.
Check timing, lube the motor well before starting. Gas/oil mix in a squirt can will be helpful. Spray some in the spark plug holes with the engine trimmed up and turn over the engine by hand to lube the cylinders. Spray more into the carbs to lube the crank and bearings while turning the engine over with the starter in very short bursts.
Clean all your connections, particularly grounds.

Once had a mechanic tell me that after his seal job failed. He never got a dime of my money ever again. In that situation, you're not only dumping gear lube into the water (polluting), it's wasteful, costly, and is eventually going to fry a perfectly resealable L/U.
