I recently acquired a 1963 Lone Star with a 1966 Johnson Super Seahorse 80 outboard. The previous owner had removed the Safety Switch which is currently preventing the motor from starting. Does anyone know of a source to obtain another one? The original part number was 379452.

Re: Safety Switch Replacement

You are probably going to have to go to a salvage yard. When I checked the part number it cross referenced to a fuel pump. Make sure you have the correct number or describe what you are looking for so that they give you the correct part.

You got the numbers mixed up. It should be 379542, replaced by 386056. Any Evinrude dealer. Or, I have several of them, send me a PM.

Re: Safety Switch Replacement

Before installing the replacement switch, make sure that you have a MARINE starter solenoid. If you use an AUTO style you will burn the switch up instantly. Probably why they disabled it. Marine style is about $25---Auto $15.

Good point and so true. If you connect a car solenoid, it will burn up the safety switch instantly. So will using a remote starter button if connected wrong. Poof!!! And the smoke gets out.

Re: Safety Switch Replacement

I also kept coming up with a fuel pump under that part number, just double checked the parts catalog and it is listed as 379452 - Safety Switch Assembly. Maybe they had a typo....

When I got it the solenoid was removed so I have already replaced with the correct one.

F_R, will be sending you a PM shortly....

Thanks for everyone's help.
