Some progress on my 67 Johnson

So I've been working on a 1967 Johnson Surfer. Unfortunately, I've not been good about recording my progress with photos and sharing them. But it's been general clean up, polishing this and that. Painting a few things, some engine and electrical work. Over the last few days, I've been making new dash panels out of mahogany to replace the fake wood stickers and cheesy carpeted dash. I'm not carpenter, but I like the results. I still need to do the panel for the gauges to sit in and the one behind the steering column.

Re: Some progress on my 67 Johnson

i recently acquired an old surfer Not sure what year. Im going to take some pics tomorrow. mabey you can tell me a little about these boats. mine is complete, its just been sitting under a tree for 18 years. everything is dry rotted from wiring to floors. im sure it would be quiet a project to restore. i just wonder if it is a quality enough boat to put the time into it. i would appreciate any input you have and thanks for your time

Depends on how much work and how much money. I like mine. The quality is great. These boats were all built in house at Johnson. So everything is made to fit in the boat. Very good fit and finish for the era. Drive is OMC Stringer, which some people will tell you to stay away from. Personally, I think they have some strong points and I have no complaints. And if it happens to be sitting on an original trailer, hold on to it. They're built out of I-Beams, they're built like tanks. Nothing being made today comes close.

Do you have pictures of the stern and a full side shot?

Are you fortunate enough to have the slide in glass for the center piece too? Nice to see an older boat in that shape.

Yes, I have some pictures from several angles. You can check out all my pictures of it in one of my photobucket albums.

(Scroll past the first few pics of me driving the boat and my dog.)

I do have the center glass, its in good shape. Still have the fold out table too and the original convertible top in good shape.

Sorry about the picture sizes. I posted them last year, and no one mentioned it until now.
