99 yam 200 efi oil pump
Hey guys, thanks for all the help over the past several months.I just now registered.
My question is how do i disable the oil pump on this 200 efi.I know it has a brass gear in the block...and im worried about it.It would be alot easier to mix the oil manually than to rebuild the motor.
I have all the manuels..they dont cover the oil pump very well.
I was thinking i could take the pump apart and remove the pump workings..
any help?

Re: need expert advice

i wouldnt mess with the oil pump.

the oil pump is very reliable not like a vro pump.
if you just start mixing gas and oil and leave the oil pump for what it is you might run into problems because of the gears that drive the oil pump, the gears need to be lubricated so they dont overheat, seise and break off and damage your crank or something else.
sure there are people that are running their engines like this, bud its not right, and if the gear go's you know why.

Thanks for your response. But yamaha are have problems with that brass gear wearing out.And a premix would lube all parts in the crank,Thats how all 2 cycles oil their cranks. Was just wondering about disconnecting the pump procedure. And weren't most of the VRO pump problems on the fuel side.I owned 1.They fixed that pump under warranty like 4 r 5 times.
Thanks anyway.
A friend fried his 200 merc last week because of a oil line crack.Blew the whole side of the motor out.It was a 2004 merc.Messed that Ranger up.

Properly maintained, the Yamaha oil injection system is one of the best being made. That tank needs to be cleaned, as well as the filter in the bottom of it. These motors are equipped with sensors that will alert you if the system isn't working. Personally, I don't see why you want to disable a system that hasn't given you any alerts....

As far as your friends mercury? My buddies '03 150 has the alarm disabled because of numerous false alarms. Maybe a Mercury guy can come on here and explain why these motors seem to have problems...

Re: need expert advice

i do not think that the gear driven oilpump is getting lubrication from oil/gas mixture trough the intake.
yes the rest of the motor will be fine bud i have some concerns about lubricating the gears on the crank and oilpump.
