Problems registering a trailer

My brother and I recently bought a boat and trailer and are having trouble fixing a title problem with the trailer. The seller signed the wrong title and didn't put the VIN number on the bill of sale. We're asking the seller for help in fixing the paper work but he's not responding. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this? It's a big trailer and I don't think the DMV in Massachusetts is going to accept it as being home made.

I haven't contacted the registry yet. I was on hold for 45 minutes the other day and when my call was finally answered the rep transferred me to another rep. I hung up after being on hold for another 30 minutes.

Thanks,
bob

Maybe it would help if you made it easy for the previous owner. You could make a new bill of sale your self, and physically take it to him & get him to sign it. Are you sure the numbers are good ? Do you have to have a title for the trailer? In Nebraska we ONLY register the trailers. As long as I resell the trailer in my state im good without a title.

I live in Georgia and was required to get a local police officer to come out and do a visual "VIN # verification" before the county would allow me to get a tag. They had a short form the officer filled out stating that he verified the VIN # and ran a check to make sure it wasn't stolen.

Go in to the office and see if they would issue you a home built ownership, If not then get in contact with the guy who sold you the trailer. I know here in Ontario Canada we can obtain a homebuilt if we do not have the official ownership.

I was going to suggest Homebuilt as well... Should not be difficult...

I need to move to a different state I guess with all the people saying register it as homemade. Here in Missouri the local police or highway patrol inspect them and you have to have receipts to show it was homemade. However, you can also have them inspect your non homemade trailer and if they sign off it's not stolen you can get a title that way too.
