After redone4x4's post, (job), here is a little gem for you.

My SIL (40yrs), lost his middle management job, decent salary, company car etc, but got a reasonable redundancy.

Him and daughter always use the increased value of their nice home to increase their mortgage to buy their new toys, so they have never reduced their mortatge in 18yrs....just made it bigger.

I have always told them, freeholding the home you live in is the best investment you will make in your life.....but hey....the old mans nothing but a sillyy old shxgger.

Anyway months pass, and no luck finding a job.
We knew things were getting bad as the grandkids would let things slip about Mum and Dad arguing, Mum crying etc etc.
2 of my casual workers (mums) socialise with them, so i said to one, I was surprised SIL hadn't come to me for a bit of work.
She said she would suggest it.
Answer came back "I'd have to chew my arm off before I would work for that old @#$%^&*".

I'm thinking, it's not going to be long before i either take over payments on their house and give them money to live on, or they will loose their home, then I am still up for paying.
So I hatch this plan....he may as well work for me and i overpay him, or I probably have to pay him anyway.

One month later they are around....missed another job....really dejected....not a happy scene at all....lot of worry there.

As you know, I am a very talented man when it comes to being able to approach difficult situations tactfully and sweetly, so I said to him...."no luck with jobs eh?....right, this is what's happening. You're going to be here at 8.30 tomorrow ready for work ....you got that?"

Well he turned up!!....on his bike (pusher).

He was very slow, and buggarex by 11am, but he came back the next day.
I gave him 2.5 days per week, at $18.50 hr and topped his money up with straight cash so they could get by.

After 2 weeks he still hadn't grizzeled, seemed happy.....getting fit....getting a sun tan.....woking hard and well.

So I get on to my mate Bill around the corner....big lettuce grower....tell him the story.
He interviews him and gives him 3 days work a week.
I'm getting a bit worried as he is on his pusher.....going for miles on narrow roads, so I give him my Grinner (1 ton Nissan ute).

Then the daughter approaches me about buying the Ute for $7,500, so I said look, keep the ute, I'll pay the rego, insurance, repairs; you put fuel in and give me the dockets. Call it part of your wage packet.

Well he loves the blxxdy thing.....it's always clean and tidy....and it has never been like that since the day I bought it new.....and he thinks he is just Xmas in it.

Now you blokes got to remember my worker John, of many years.
The one that smells bad but works hard.
One monday he failed to show, and this time I didn't go chasing him.
Next week same thing, so i asked SIL if he wanted to stay on....YES...I LIKE WORKING HERE, AND AT BILL'S.
So I havn't seen John in weeks and guess I never will.

Now the SIL is very responsible.....can remember things...count past 10.....got a lot to learn about horticulture, business and hard work...but he is doing it.
I have asked him to stay with Bill so he can learn from someone else too, then I will bring him here full time and take a holiday, and hopefully wind me and the wifes hours back a bit.
Just got to keep the business 'working' in these times.

Cheers
Phillip

Great Phill!! You get a big ol'e "that a boy" for doing good and keeping the family's best interest and well being in mind. A hand up rather than a hand out. You ever think of running for public office??:p:p:D

Good work Phillip!! Having him work for his $$$ is so much better than a handout. Plus he likes it and you have a dependable worker.

Re: The Job situation

I never expected these responses.
I felt it sort of a good yarn about a city dude.
Anyway thank you for your comments...I see it all quite differently now.

I recall tashasdaddy telling me "I should grow a pair' about a year back when I raised the issue of the smelly worker... well, it happened....I didn't actually get rid of him, but he did leave....so that problems solved.
Bart got it roscoe....(add a 'd').

There is obviously a slight gap between us....maybe this cartoon explains it a little....mind you....you got to think side-ways a-bits to get it you blokes.

Cheers
Phillip
