Just wondering if anyone has info on removing this lower gear case. I have a manual but doesnt show this style...just wanted to change the water pump as the boat has been sitting. Any info is greatly appreciated.

There was no 88hp in '77. Lets start by figuring out what you have. What's the model #?

That's a 1987 model.

You remove the gearcase by removing the seven bolts (including one for the trim tab) and disconnecting the shift rod from under the carburetors.

I have all the bolts out, I'm trying to figure out how to unhook the shift rod under the carbs?? I see the plastic piece the rod is pinned in, but that is a pressed pin.????

I believe yours has the clip pin in the shift lever that you pull out, then slide the shift lever away from the shift rod. The pin is reached from the starboard side of the engine.

Is this a one piece shaft? It hooks at the top...that won't slide down thru to remove the gear case. I'm missing some thing here.

The whole shift rod/shaft comes off with the gearcase. The horizontal shift lever moves horizontally after pulling the clip.
