i believe my thermal relay has gone bad on my trim motor and they're telling me i have to change out the whole trim motor to fix it. was wondering if i could change this out or even remove trim motor and rebuild with new brushes, by-pass the relay and install a wire fuse to prevent from happening again? any tips on removing the trim motor would help too. thanks

Re: trim motor thermal relay 225HP

What year?
If your trim motor has a thermo switch it is a small piece like a contact. Your trim motor is already fuse protected. Your motor has gone bad.
Just change the trim motor with a new one. I like ARCO products.
You will need to either remove the engine from the boat or at least the port clamp bracket. Salt water motors are a real pain doing this job.
If your trim motor is held with phillips head machine screws replace them with 3/8 or 5/16" head bolts of the same length.

i was afraid of that, but quite aware of that possibility. it's 1998, what it is doing is allowing me to trim for about 10 sec. and then just stops, up or down, and i wait a couple of mins and can trim again for 10 sec. the problem rooted from the motor trimming itself up all night after a good rain.
