Let me start by saying that I am NO mechanic.....I start the motor and run it, well.......used to run it.
The motor starts fine, idles fine (and can rev in neutral), but once I put it in gear, there is almost no power. Is this a carb problem? Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Check compression and spark. If all is well, check fuel lines. If they're good, and not leaking anywhere, run motor and try squirting mixed fuel into the carb when you put in gear and try to rev up. If it goes faster, you have a lean condition, if it gets worse, rich condition. Carb overhaul would be indicated.

Probably points, possibly carb. Sounds like it is only running on one cylinder. The symptoms are very typical of a 2cyl. running on 1.

If the coils haven't been changed they are most likely failing.Pull the flywheel and take a look.Any discoloration or cracking; replace them.Might just need new plugs. Could also be as simple as cleaning points and adjusting.
If your no mechanic some of this may be over your head if you know someone mechanically inclined these procedures are pretty straight forward.
If your going to try these repairs you should get a service manual.A factory manual is best.
