Any body have any ideas on how i have gotten water mixed in with my trim pump. I had drained all the oil at the beginning of the year and refilled it with fresh fluid, I also drained all the oil out of the lines and rams. Now after checking it for storage, i find a milk shake looking mixture, any ideas on where to look and what the next step should be.

Thanks

Look for a bad fitting/corrosion of the cylinders. There's really not that many ways water can get in.

I have checked all connections and all are nice and tight and no leaking. I am just lost as to where all the water came from.

Could be a bad seal in one of the rams.

Well then maybe i will just have to rebuild them over the winter or would buying new ones be better?

I am sure the service manual would give you the procedure, but I have never looked it up specifically. I would also say you may have a bad seal, but I think you would see fluid on the shaft after trimed it up and down a couple times on the trailer. If not, you may have a bad fitting or hose. Again though, I think you would see fluid around the leak. If water is getting in, fluid should be leaking out. Just my opinion.........

I agree problem child, and i have never seen any oil on the trim shafts or anything leaking out...that is why i am totally baffled by the water in the pump..guess i will just rebuild both sides and completly drain the oil again and flush it out and refill it....sounds like a good winter project for me....

No chance that the seal under the cap is missing or your reservoir is cracked. Moisture from amibiant air may be entering the reservior. Also, are there any hoses directly over the top of your reservoir (i.e. bilge pump drain hose) that may be leaking.Just a thought........
