Ohio is trying squeeze every last dime to register a car, get this...I have this 94 taurus that I use as a winter beater, the registrations expires in the spring so I renew my summer car and just park the taurus, Today I went to renew the taurus registration that expired last spring, usually my cost is pro rated, but this year not only do I have to pay full cost + but another plate, and... I have a 20.00 late penalty! $86.00 in all and it expires again in March!!!! EDIT  Ohio is corrupted.

Sorry Kent man, Illinois is worse. A plate is $78/yr, just to start with. So it would be $98 and it would expire in March, if you were in Illinois.

Ohio was always one of the cheapest state, to register vehicles and boats. Hoosiers even tried to register they vehicles in OH. Rich Californians even registered their yachts there.

Sound's like they are finally wising up, on a great, easy source of revenue.

Wellcome to the "high dollar club". :(

$86,,, that's cheap out where I live. Both of my vehicles (6-7 years old) run around $150 to register each year and when they were new they cost around $400 to register.

But,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, we have no state tax so I guess it probably all evens out in the end

I'm going to have to fork up about $1200 to register my vehicles & get new drivers licenses down here in FL. $900 of that will be for just two vehicles. I've been avoiding that county tax collector for a reason.

I'm sure Ontario will be jumping on that bandwagon as soon as they can. They may have already as far as I know. Trailers though are still a one time "buy the plate" thing with no renewals.

How is that possible? In 1995 after the "impact fee" was ruled unconstitutional, Florida instituted a "first time registration fee". I paid $100 for that fee, plus $26 for the license plate, $75 for the Florida title, and about $20 for my license. So how can it be $1200 for two vehicles now?

NJ folks whine about having the highest property tax in the country, which is also federally deductible. so its actually a bit less than the face value, than we don't get nailed on personal property tax or luxury items. The big hit is that we fund our k=12 with real estate property tax.

It's going to be approximately 450 per car. 200 + for some kind of tax & I don't recall what the other part was. $110 for two drivers licenses & rest will go toward registering a utility trailer & boat. Everything doubled September 1st. I wont have to pay these exhorbant fees next time around, but they stick it to the new resident

Then they have doubled the "1st time registration fee".

Sue them, they lost over their impact fee once already, they'll lose again over this fee. best of luck to you. At least you don't have a 3% state income tax, like we do in Illinois!

I think in Iowa the late fee is $10 per month or part thereof.
