I have a '85 or '86 Johnson 110 that seems to use excessive fuel. Does anyone know what the original per hour consumption was rated at by the factory.

thanks, jdot

Re: Fuel consumption excess

Can you define your version of excessive fuel??? Outboards are nasty pigs on fuel, they aren't hybrid toyota's! Is it a new motor to you, have you owned it for years and now it's gotten worse?

Re: Fuel consumption excess

I have a 16 gallon fuel cell and i probably cannot go 16 or maybe 20 nautical or otherwise on one tank. I've had the motor for 5 or 6 yrs and it's always been hoggish. I just wondered if that was excessive or normal. I know older motors use more than newer ones but I was expecting a couple miles per.

I have a slightly older motor. a 1980 115hp Evinrude.

Put a fuel flow meter in cause I like to see those kind of things. Was right at the 10% of hp at between 11 and 12 gph at wot (40mph). Around 3.5 mpg. I can get it to around 4.5 mpg by throttling back to around 32 mph.

What boat and how fast are you going at WOT?

That's horrendous! How many gas cans do you need to carry just for a weekend at the lake?

They do make inboard V6 stern drive units that make 200 plus horsepower and just sip fuel.;)
