My wife & I are thinking about flying out west and driving the pacific coast highway in February, and was wondering where a good place would be to begin our trip. We would be flying from Ontario, Canada so I would like to have nice weather. Should we start in San Fransisco and go south????? Any suggestions from any who might have done this in winter or if you live in the west would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Yep, starting in SF and heading south would work fine. The hills are green in the SF bay area for just a few weeks in February... then they turn brown again. Going south, be sure to check out the giant redwood forest and also the Monterey Bay Acquarium. Both are awesome!

With Cali being my home state for 37 years...

I don't see how you can go wrong either way....
You can fly into San Diego and start there...Spend some time in the old Gas Lamp district and tour the USS Midway Aircraft carrier..

You cant take PCH all the way from San Diego..You will have to be on the 5 North around San Onofre nuclear Power Plant...

There's lots of little surf towns down there, Oceanside, Mission Viejo..

On North thru Orange County theres Huntington Beach, Seal Beach..Long Beach home of the Queen Mary, and Long Beach has a cool little nightlife scene on Ocean Ave...The Long Beach aquarium of the Pacific is small but nice...

Northward from there you will hit Redondo Beach (my stomping grounds too) and then Hermosa Beach, marina Del Rey, El Segundo (not much there..lol)

Then Malibu..YEAH...as long as theres no rockslides thats a great drive..Go through some of the Malibu back canyons if you like scenic country and lots of twisty roads..lol

Next good stop is Santa Barbara...cool little surf town too..
Lots of rocky coastline up to Carmel..Very nice little $$$ town, Clint Eastwood was the Mayor there a few years back..

Great..now I am homesick...dammmmmm

Hi, I live in Ca. and you really can't go wrong either way, but since your from Canada start with the cooler weather north in san Fran, and work your way south into the warmer, as Cheapboatkev said, all of those spots are beautiful.from Frisco down. or Diego up, good luck with your trip

Mission Viejo SUCKS! Don't even stop there unless you like a bunch of bro kids....... (San Diego and MV where I grew up)

San Diego is fun, go to the zooooo, go to a restaurant called "Dicks last resort" in gas lamp, they are very rude there on purpose and you can be as rude as you want to them. From what I hear they make GREAT tips.

you can stop by Huntington beach and help us put our top cap back on the boat (bring your own gloves), Fishermans warf is fun, cant remember if hurst castle is still open, a little off PCH there is a cute little city called Santa Ana, they have awesome little taco stands. DON'T WEAR GANG COLORS and DONT LOOK ANYONE IN THE EYE!!! (ok that last part was a joke dont go there).
