Hello , i am in the process of selling off my outboard motor, i realize that the remote cable control should go with motor, but how about the steering cable,
it stays with the boat? or should it go with motor?
it seems to be quite a Bit** to pull through the motor mountings.

Many Thanks in advance, Bulldog

The steering cable generally stays with the boat. Of course, it's your choice though.

Leave the cable with the boat. As far as that goes--- you don't HAVE to sell controlls with motor, a lot are sold without them, but that's up to you.

No, they are pretty much brand specific.

Steering cable I would say generally no. Controls, yes. You will have a much easier time selling it that way. Nothing worse than finding a nice motor then having to fork out more money again searching for controls.

controls are part of the motor, steering part of the boat. mercury's are note for having different wiring harness over the years. johnson/evinrude, different shift systems. again controls are part of the motor. also 1997 and never have different harnesses.

Motor controls are usually specific to brand of motor, but steering cable is usually universal imho. I found the trim/tilt switch universal. I have an Evinrude switch on a Force (by Mercury) outboard. It's merely a double-throw switch for the three wires (Hot, Up, Down).

most tilt switches are incorporated into the control handle.
