Re: Suzuki DF 140 Zinc Replacement

Should be easy to find since they're about the only things on the motor that's not Stainless Steel or painted. There should be one near the bottom of the main motor bracket, then the trim tab fin on the back bottom of cavitation plate is a zinc anode. I think those may be the only two on my Yamaha but Suzukis and some bigger motors may have several others. No gaskets under zinc sacrificial anodes since good metal to metal contact is essential for them to work. Probably a good idea to keep the zincs clean and free of any marine growths, paint, grease, etc. that could reduce their electrical conductivity. Good Luck!

Yeh, the internal one are the ones I did not know where they were. The one on the head still has me guessing, I will take a look at it when I get home. The outer ones are obvious at to the gaskets but I did igure that there would be gaskets for the internals. I am guessing I should replace them too when I remove the internal anodes.

Are your zinc anodes used up and in need of replacement? If not, just clean and tighten them to insure good metal to metal contact. Good Luck!

Hi Kirt,
IMO, if the motor is used in salt water, I would replace the internal anode and o-ring (#6 & #7) every other season.
It's not worth it to have the internal anode become brittle and pieces break off and get lodged in the water passages.
I had it happen to my yamaha and have heard it happening to others.

Bolt #9 secures the cover to the head.
