First thing is to find the coolant leak. Not sure about your Toyota but some cars will shut down if the ECM detects the oil or coolant is below a certain level.

Re: car shut down

please define "shut down"

did it shut off like someone threw a switch, or did it sputter and die?

Re: car shut down

by shut down i mean i had just came to a redlight and it quit running. pushed it into a parking lot. then noticed the antifreeze on the ground. im guessing that the water pump has went out and the timing belt broke. im no full blown mechanic. but im fairly mech inclined. im actually looking at it right now to see if its something i can do. looks real tight in there. im going to fill with water and see were it comes out at. and at least try and get cover off of timing belt to see if its broke. i think if they break it will be out of time. then im not sure how to get it back in time.

Well it could be a number of things..... You could have blown a line in the coolant system, faulty water pump, blown head gasket, timing belt..... how much anti freeze did you see on the ground? .... a small amount could be the radiator too...

In a good note the 2.2 liter 5SFE Toyota motor is NOT an interference motor so if it is the timing belt at least your valves are safe.

Now that we know it's not an interference motor you can crank it to see if it sounds as if it has any compression. If it doesn't sound normal while cranking you may have a broken t- belt. If it sounds too smooth while cranking you could have a failed timing belt.
