Rodbolt can you identify this tach for me?

I purchased a used tach hoping to use it on my 97 Yammy 115 but the connectors differ.

Primarily:

the two wire green/white and green/red connector uses round rather than flat pins;

the four wire square connector for the Pink, Black/white, Orange, and Gray does not have the gray wire directly to the tach as does my original but rather terminates it with a bullet connector;

and the tach has no DIP switches but rather the old rotary switch to select alternator/generator pole types.

I'd post a pic as soon as I can..

I need to know if I can make it talk to my motor.

Here's some pics of the tach. I'd like to use/adapt it to work on a 1997 Yamaha 115TJRV.

it will work, make sure its set for 12 pole.
you can either cut the connectors and splice or buy the square to round trim and oil wire adapters.
pre 1995 yamaha used round connectors and post 95 used square.
you will need two adapters or cut it up.
gray wire is for overheat visual and I dont think the tach had it in that year range. overheat visual way back was in the speedo.

Excellent answer Rodbolt!

I'll just use the connectors from the old tach. You're right about the temp visual as there appears to not be one on the "new" tach.

I wonder if I should leave the grey wire disconnected? It does feed to the "new tach" so I suppose it served some purpose.

Please advise.

AHA! I just had what's often referred to as an epiphany. I realized that the diagram linked to was for the old style instruments not the newer ones. Since then I realized I also had purchased an old style yamaha digital speedo which matches the vintage of this tach and has the gray wire for the temp visual and the appropriate icon on the face of the speedo.

Looks like I'm home free here and have all I'll need to get this critter fixed.

Thanks to all of you guys.
