79 100hp hard to start

i have a 100hp johnson that is very cold natured and takes a bit to get to start and stay running probably about 4-5 mins. once warmed up i can run it across the lake and back and it will idle fine but when i turn it off and try to start it again it doesnt seem to want to start almost acts like it isnt getting fuel or is flooded what am i missing? please help

that is good, check spark on all 4 cylinders, should jump 1/2 inch using a spark tester.

It normally takes a minute or two to warm these engines when first started each day. Once the engine is choked and it begins to run, you may have to keep it at fast idle for a while. If the engine sneezes (coughs) during startup it is running lean, and you may have to occasionally push in on the key to momentarily choke the engine till it warms up. I'd check the cyl head temps on the engine when warmed up, if the thermostats are stuck open, the engine can run cold, affecting the way the engine runs, starts and fuel economy. You want the engine to idle at about 145-155 degrees when warmed up.
