I just received my new phone bill and found unauthorized charges of $28.77.:mad:

When I called at&t they stated that "at&t cannot address these charges. This portion of your bill is provided as a service to the above company."

Whoa there at&t, I have not authorized you to provide any "service" except phone service so you can kindly credit my account for these unauthorized charges. Nope. No can do replies at&t.

I then had to call the companies that charged my at&t account and cancel services I never signed up for and play "Let my transfer you to a supervisor" and get put on hold for 45 minutes for each provider.

The companies involved were MYEMAILDEFENDER,INC-WEBMAIL STANDARD and MYIPRODUCT IMAIL VOICEMAIL

Someone had to access my AOL e-mail account and signed up for these "services". They had my phone number and address but posted an incorrect date of birth. &^*%$$#$ frapplewag scoundrels.

I changed my password on AOL and hopefully I am done with this problem.

I realize that $28.77 is not a vast fortune, but I'll be danged if I allow some company to charge me for "services" I have not myself signed up for or authorized.

Supposedly I will be credited these charges on my next at&t bill. Let the wait begin.

There is something fishy going on with AT&T. I have had charges added to my account 3x since June and they have different excuses from them. It came from your mywireless.com account was one of them. Never used the account. Another was I ordered thru the phone but I didn't even have data access at the time. If it wasn't for the fact I have 3 new phones and 4000 rollover minutes I'd pack it in. I asked for a purchase block on all my phones and received an acknowledgement via email that it was enacted. We'll see. Just watch your billing each month for anomalies!!!

might have been a test to see if you noticed. Or to see if it would clear. Then the big one hits.

yup, easy enough to have happen.. I took a test off facebook or similar onetime, and you had to enter a cell phone number to get the results.. I gave my stepson's cell number because he was sitting right there (I had a suspicion this was rigged). He started getting junk text messages and yup, you know the rest.. a $20 bill added to his cell phone acct the next month and a royal pain to get it removed AND I think it would have been a recurring fee as well!!

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. I received an e-mail many months ago from a friend. The site I was directed to wanted my home phone, my cell phone, date of birth, etc. for me to access whatever. I just thought that was way too much information requested and told my friend ,no thanks.
Turns out that he did not send me the e-mail even though it had his e-mail address. Some sort of scam hacking went on in his account.

I'm all for the death penalty for any and all hackers, spammers, and other assorted low lifes.

You don't have to have access to someone's e-mail account to spoof it. All you need is the address itself. If you will notice, any link in it, or even a reply will go to another address, often offshore.

One reason I use Pegasus mail is so I can click a button and expose the entire mail header with routing info. Makes it easy to sort out fact from fiction. It also makes it possible to block further baloney from the same server.

Re: I've been hacked and scammed.

My Verizon bill got crammed recently - had to call this "road service" company and then the "voice mail" company that works with the road service company and tell them that they had no authorization to begin this "service" and to cancel it immediately. It too amounted to 29.00 or so. Fortunately, I do not and will NEVER have automatic deduction for any billing for this very reason.

Then I called Verizon to see why my "frozen" account got these charges. Verizon said they had no record of a freeze. I've has this account for over 30 years! It's all just a game of pick your pocket!
Grrrr!

You are welcome. I was "promised" no additional charges will appear in the future. I hope so, cus I have run out of patience...

Re: I've been hacked and scammed.

Can one imagine receiving a water bill, electric bill, etc. and seeing a third party charge on it? WTF:confused:

Why does at&t provide a "service" to any third party to collect funds. If just a fraction of at&t customers do not read their bill, the funds collected are astronomical. I'm sure that at@t collects a percentage of these funds.

This is really ticking me off. Why do I have to apply for a block for a "service" that I never authorized?

It's all in the fine print people,it's all in the fine print. I, for one, will not stand for this. Unite yee fellow fighters, unite!

Re: I've been hacked and scammed.

Tyme2 fish,

I understand your frustration. Had a dedicated land line to a fax, ATT line. Someone was pinging the line and the charges showed up as a service charge. 58.00/ mo. addl. to a 26.00 line for for 6 months. Took quite a while , but got the charges reversed as I could prove to them that the line was dedicated to a fax. But that is probably old school, as the new systems are so integrated. Wonder how hard it will be to track in the future....

From what I have read and heard elsewhere a lot of these extra charges are actually "inside jobs"
Just what I have heard though.

Re: I've been hacked and scammed.

My little AT&T story....

My wife and I have AT&T Go Phone pay-as-you-go cell phones. (Cells don't work well at our house so we weren't using them enough to justify a normal contract, I HIGHLY recommend this route to anyone with very low usage). After EVERYTHING you do on a Go phone you get a quick text message from AT&T telling you what it just cost and your account balance (phone calls, text messages, etc). Annoying but actually quite handy. We got these cheapo candy-bar phones to use for $9.99. They are decent phones but they have this one flaw....they are completely flat except for this little joystick that sticks up just a tiny bit above the other keys. Pushing this joystick in activates the internet features of the phone (whatever the heck those are). Well the first day we had the service and received these phones I found that when this button got pushed and the internet accessed I'd get a message from AT&T saying I just spent $0.05. This is ridiculous because as I said, this button is raised above all the others and I could see that this would be getting bumped ALL the time in my pocket or my wife's purse. So I call up AT&T. They refund the 5 or 10 cents I've accidentally spent and they tell me they've removed the internet from my account so it won't happen again. Next I press the button, you guessed it......another $0.05. AHH! What I ended up doing was going into the settings of the phone and messing them all up. Now when I press that button, I get some kind of "Invalid something or other" error. So basically I had to "break" my phone to keep AT&T from, quite literally, nickel and diming me.

If you dont like the way any company does business with you get rid of them because its your money. If in dealing with them you have the misfortune of talking with anyone who isnt even IN AMERICA you also have a choise to prefer to do your business with someone WHO IS.

I also went with the AT&T gophone. It's great for me. I went for years paying $35 a month for their lowest option - 250 anytime, 1,000 n&w - and averaged about 15-20 minutes a month. Bought $100 worth in July 08 and in July 09 still had $47 left.
