First off I would like to thank every one for this great site. I have learned a great deal of information.
My problem is on my throttle control lever I have a red button under the lever to pull up with my fingers to put the boat in gear. If I dont pull the red button and I push the throttle forward it should stay in neutral and it should idle higher. HOWEVER the red button no longer does anything. The boat will go into gear without having to pull up on the red button. Could this be an adjustment in one of my cables? If so which one? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I do not have a manual for my boat but am in the process of ordering one. Thank You
Oh ya my engine is a mercruiser 3.0 I/0 Alpha 1 stern drive.

Re: Control lever problem???

I have the button under my throttle handle as well. When you pull up on that button, it lifts a flat steel bar that runs down the throttle handle and disengages the handle right there at the base. On mine, it's to prevent bumping it and knocking it into gear. It is probably not a cable issue, but a button/tension issue. It's a real pain in the azz. There's a flat steel tension spring under that button too that returns it after you lift it. If you take it aprt, you'll be able to see what's wrong.
