Hello all, new here and need help. Thanks to all the great info I have gleaned from this site I am changing the water pump on my 97 Yam c115. Got everything apart ok (even the dreaded collar thanks an old post by Rodbolt) till it came time for the impeller which is stuck to the shaft. I've removed the rubber, sprayed it with some penetrating oil and been tapping it with a plastic hammer but so far it still won't budge. Now what?
Also when I removed the lower unit a small amount of oil poured out from somewhere up in the motor housing where the driveshaft goes up into, thought that was wierd. When it poured out it hit just forward of the shift shaft and some collected in the cavity just forward of that, then when I got the water pump housing off there was some inside it too on the wear plate I can't really seem to locate the source yet as I wiped it off and don't see any signs of it anywhere else, anyone know what is the cause of this? See pic below...Thanks for any help.

Re: Stuck impeller help

once the lock collar is removed use some 120 grit or so emery or sand paper to clean the shaft.
then spray some lube on the shaft and pry the impeller upwards.

Re: Stuck impeller help

Thanx Rodbolt for the reply, I polished and pried till I was blue in the face and it still would'nt give. Finally scored through the brass hub with a dremel to get it off. Come to find out the woodruff key was corroded to the point there was nearly none of it left protruding into the impeller slot and the rest was welded into the groove on the shaft with some surrounding corrasion doing the same to the impeller hub. Could'nt chisel it out or get it to budge either...back to the dremel and cutoff wheel, very carefully worked away the material of the key and finally got 2 almost paper thin half moon pieces of metal to pop out. Here is a pic of the keyway now:

Still need some help with the oil issue though.... after I got the impeller off and removed the plate I did'nt find any signs of oil coming from the seal below. I pulled the metal cup from the pump housing and there was oil between the cup and housing. I smelled the oil and it's definately not gear lube and the gear lube in the housing looks normal. So no signs of leak / oil coming from above or below the pump. Anyone got any ideas??? Here's a pic of the cup and housing:

Re: Stuck impeller help

look carefully at the pic of the pump housing. in the pic the upper right prtion looks like it got melted, ANY sign of melt will scrap the housing.
also on the lower, remove that rubber dam and holder and clean the corrosion or you may end up posting about overheat below 1000 nRPM.
on the driveshaft, carefully remove the slinger and inspect the drive shaft seal garter spring for rust or breakage.
