Well, here's another one!

I'm trying to find out where to start looking for an annoyance with the trim system on it.

Sometimes, the trim will not come all the way in (the motor won't trim in towards the transom completely, to bring the bow down). This causes a difficult time for me to get the boat on plane. Then, for no apparent reason I know of, I can move the trim buttons up/down and it will somewhere in that sequence trim in all the way, and then the boat pops right up on plane. There is no trim limit peg in the hole to limit the trim, so I don't have that option to trim further in. The stop point is very close to full "in" but not quite enough for easy planing, UNTIL it magically comes in all the way to full "in" trim.

Any ideas where to start, absent tearing the whole thing apart and rebuilding/replacing something?

thanks

You might have air in the hydraulic line?? Maybe a fill and bleed will take care of this issue?

could also be worn brushes in the trim motor? I think that there is still a brush card assy. available for these units that is a pretty cheap and fairly easy reapir.

I am going to pull the motor off the transom in the Spring, as I am rebuilding carb's right now, and probably changing reeds, etc. Also going to de-grease the thing and repaint it all when I'm done. Once I have the motor off the boat, I am going to clean up the trim unit, check what I can find and change the fluid, and then try to test it and determine what might be the cause. I don't see anywhere that it might be bottoming out or binding externally, and wondered if it could be something in the trim cylinder or something. I can do the bleeding when I refill it. I don't have any leakage of fluid that I can see, either.

thanks
