I would like to replace the old SeaStar hydraulic steering system for a new hydraulic system on my 1988 Boston Whaler Temptation w/ 1989 Yamaha 200hp outboard. The entire system. I have seen kits for sale and do not know if they are compatible. What steering kit should I use and, except for hoses, is a kit all that is necessary?

I assume you have a front mount cylinder. Have you made it to this page yet? http://ww2.seastarsteering.com/OUTBOARD/oboard.htm

Looks pretty straightfoward. You do have to chose a helm displacement 1.7, 2.0, or 2.4. Do you know which helm is on it now.

They may, (or may not), know. Depends on how good their record keeping is. It will be stamped somewhere on the help pump, (may be on the backside and visible near where the hoses attach). If you haven't found it by the weekend, I'll go look on mine. I need a good excuse to lift back the cover anyway and make sure a neighbor's cat isn't frequenting the premises.
