Take your Dodge diesel to some one who really knows them and a small adjustment on your mechanical fuel pump will give you more horse power than you could ever use.;)

Just make sure you install a Pyro gauge (Exhaust Gas Temp) before you start playing or you could melt pistons. I bought my #10 plate off eBay for $65 but many just grind their own. A great resource for Dodge Diesels is: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/

The forums there are great just like the ones here. :)

Re: Got a new tow rig yesterday...

wow looks great for being "up north".
I would venture to guess that maybe the previous owner was a retired winter rv towing snowbirder?

We have a lot of them down here now in the campgrounds and rv parks.
The locals get some really great trucks like yours by cruising thru them.
The retired guys seem to get the itch to trade in while down here and bored during the winter.
But they like to sell what they got out right versus trading it in.

Wow, you don't see anything that old here in MN and certainly not original if you do. Even if the mechinacals still work they rust apart. It is always interesting traveling down south or in non-salt states to see cars you haven't seen on the road for years due to the rust issue.

Thanks, guys!

I must admit, I already turned up the juice a little bit...just a tad...couldn't help myself. ;)

I got 16 MPG my first tank...although I think If i kept my foot out of it a bit, it would have been better. I hear that the diesel in the summer nets better mileage, so I'm looking forward to that.

It's funny. Because it's such a beast, the accelerator takes muscle to push and the brake takes darn near two feet sometimes. Something you get used to, but when I drive the Equinox, for the first few minutes I really mash the pedals and my wife just shakes her head like I'm an idiot. DOH! ;)

clean looking truck, I always liked the looks of those. I have owned a 97 dodge and now a 04, but still like the older style also.

Re: Got a new tow rig yesterday...

I live in NJ, but I grew up in Alaska, and I'm a pickup guy at heart.

I decided I absolutely hated my current daily driver, an 00 Mitsubishi Diamante, and I wanted a truck.

Found a 1 owner, no rust, unmolested 1991.5 Dodge 3/4 Ton 4x4 Diesel.

Woot! ;)

Great looking truck! I've owned several older Dodges, all were good trucks. I had a 1992 one ton with 4x4 and the Cummins engine with a manual trans, but it had to be bought back after the front crossmember failed. There was a recall somewhere back then as well. I'm not sure if it was on all years or just the last two years.

I looked at a fairly clean one ton not that long ago here, it had over 200k on it and had bed rust over the wheels and the front floor was rotted out. They wanted $8,800. I was told they sold it for $7,500 a few weeks later.
I've had or driven Ford, GM, and Dodge diesels, the Dodge motor in those older models was as good as it gets. The Ford runs a close second, the older GM diesels just don't do it for me.

I just find it hard to pay nearly what those truck were new for a used one 20 years later. I bought a 1997 Ford Power Stroke crew cab 4x4 in 1997 for $22,400, and sold it in 2004 with 144,000 miles on it for $17,500. It was clean but still a 144,000 mile truck. The prices of the newer trucks is insane, especially over the past 10 years or so. I have a hard time convincing myself that any vehicle is worth as much as they ask these days.

I have no doubt my next truck, if I ever do part with the two I have now, will be older trucks.
