ok guys, ive read through a million of these threads but was unable to find an answer to my problem. Was out fishing last night, (favorite jack spot) went to pull out and leave my fishing area, and motor would not go in forward. I had no problem putting it in reverse. When I put the motor in gear, i heard the gears "grinding" more like clicking. About my motor 88 force 125. Long shaft. I have put alot of money into this motor to keep her running great. I've had this motor, its hole life. Never had a problem with her. If anyone has any ideas or, would like to fix this problem for me, or atleast point me in the right direction. thanks in advanced.

first thing to check is to make sure nothing is loose[cables ,cable ends ,if you have to, get a friend to move the control while you watch the motor end ], next check adjustment if nothing is broke or loose, also check to make sure the pivot pin isn't loose or worse[I don't feel like this is the issue ],you'll probably find your issue with the control end or motor end loose or out of adjustment. Keep us posted on what you find .MOPAR MAN ROLL TIDE 13-0:D

Ditto what moparman says.

On the trailer, pull the lanyard, disconnect the shift cable at the motor, manually shift the motor into Forward gear while turning the prop.

Does it lock into gear?

If so, then step on the prop blade in attempt to turn the prop backwards and turn the motor over.

Also test Reverse in the same manner.

Generally, if a gear set locks into gear well enough to turn over the motor then the gear case is operating correctly and the problem is often found in the shift cable, either the adjustment is off or the cable has stretched and can no longer BOTH push and pull the shift lever far enough.
