Re: Boresighters

First..... I would be shooting the cheaper slugs in the beginning.... there really are not significant changes below 100 yards from slug to slug...... maybe slight elevation changes but the windage should be fairly close.

I am anti boresighter. For 12 ga slugs I used to start out with a pizza box @ 50 yards and move it out from there. You should be able to "point" at a pizza box at 50 yds as a good start.

As a side note for my rifles I always look through my bolt action barrels and do them by eye and put them right to paper too.

Personally I would save my money

I've seen the 76mm on a AVGP and a 108mm? on a leapard II get bore sighted but why do people want to bore sight small cal weapons, start at 25m and walk and adjust sights. I could have made the bisley team if i hadnt drank all that rum the night before, I swear:D

I have a 1-26 twist 12ga barrel , which is designed for sabots. The guy that built it, says to stay away from lead slugs as they will foul the barrel pretty easily.

Most sabots are $10/5 rounds and up.

I could live without a boresighter too. Just looks like an interesting way to set things up.

Rough sight it with cheap slugs, then clean your gun. The wire brush is to get the lead out of the grooves.

If the grooves are so roughly cut that they foul readily, something's wrong.

Actually, the only reason I even run sabots at close range is to get the Remington solid copper round, which does a lot of damage but doesn't shed lead into the meat. It's about 3 bucks a round. Pays for itself in hamburger.:D

Re: Boresighters

I have a laser boresighter for my 12g shotgun that was given to me as a gift. I would not have bought one for myself but since it was a gift I use it.

Yes it does get me on the paper @ 100y but I still need to fine adjust the scope for final slug placement.

I do use the LB quite often for duck hunting, checking my ATN Ultra Sight on my Benelli Super Nova.

I don't shoot slugs, but I have used a bore sighter for years. I enjoy scoping rifles for myself and friends. Still takes fine tuning from a bench, but its all fun.

Take your gun to Bass Pro, Dicks Sporting goods, Outdoor World, Cabals, etc. They usually will do the bore sighting for you at no charge.
