Hi,

I'm new to the forum...

Can anyone tell me what the max. rpm is for my motor. It is a year 2000 V4 Johnson 130hp... Just got the boat, a Wellcraft sportsman 180, and trying to determine if it is propped correct...

Should be shooting for around 5,500 rpm as far as I know, however the best thing you can do is to post what you are getting currently and go from there. Low rpm can be caused by a lot of things other than the prop. High rpm and low boat speed could be a spun hub. There are a gazillion variations to be considered, the prop is just one of them.

I recently bought a Wellcraft 180 Fisherman. The center console version of yours. Is a model year 200 also but with the V4 115 hp Johnson. Max RPM of my motor is rated between 4500 and 5500. That being said, with a typical load I'm getting 5800 maxed out. With just me and little chop I've seen 6000. To listen to the motor I'd swear it could run all day at that but I should probably reprop.

The full throttle operating range on your 130 is 5,000 to 6,000 RPM.

The stock powerpack #584041 has a rev limit of 6,700 RPM.

I would prop to reach close to 6,000 rpm with my average load if it were mine.

I have my 130HP on a 18ft Sea-Pro propped at about 5800 with average load. Runs great too,

As stated, your target rpm will be 5800-6000. To answer the other part of your question about max rpm for that motor - 6700 is where the limiter is. That motor with stock porting and stock ignition is capable of about 8200 or so once you go around the limiter.

Wow! Thanks for all the great info...

I'll run some trials and see what max rpm I get... I'm presuming that with there being a rev limiter I'm ok if it revs over 6,000, which I think it will do..

you will probably be ok to rev over 6K, I think it is said to give you longer motor life if you run it at about 7/8 to 3/4 throttle somewhere in the low 5s. I heard that running at the lower rpms would increase motor life, but you want to prop so WOT is close to 6
