HELLO ALL FIRST TIME POST. MY NEIGHBOR IS THROWING OUT HIS 1959 GLASSPAR DELMAR 16FT WITH A 1958 JOHNSON 50HP SEA HORSE MOTOR. BOTH HAVE BEEN SITTING FOR 20+ yrs. IS THE MOTOR WORTH GRABBING OFF THE BOAT TO SELL. OR DOES ANYONE KNOW IF THERE IS COLLECTOR INTEREST IN BOAT AND MOTOR. ANY INFO APPRECIATED. THANKS

Re: Johnson Sea Horse

grab both and make a project out of it. I recently bought a 59' sea horse and it is the best running motor I have owned. DRAG IT TO YOUR HOUSE and kindly ask him the the titles..... you will have fun and make money if you wish to sell it later.

There are threads you can search here about bringing old engines back from the dead..... not too hard

That wonderful old "Fat" fifty is a gold mine of sought-after parts, even if you choose not to bring her back to useful life.

The boat is most likely junk.. . a bunch of deteriorated glass holding a bunch of rot together.

Grab the motor's flywheel and see if it will turn over. If it does, that's a really bad sign. You'll have to ship it to me and I'll see to it that it's disposed of properly.

You wanna pay for shipping on that 205 lbs monster?

Definately don't want to pay to ship it to Canada, Steve! Michigan might be a lot cheaper... :)

If it's been sitting outside for 20+ years the motor may be toast, too. At best you may have a good running motor, at worst 200+ lbs. of scrap metal to haul off.

Extremely rugged, hard working engines. Many were used on work boats by clammers, crabbers, dock builders, etc.. The only down side to them is they loved fuel. That same basic block design eventually grew to over 125 horsepower.

Ahhhhhh. never underestimate the outboards that sit for 20+ years. I have two that sat for 11 years and still look almost like new. Unless they're seized up, they are about 99% revivable from what I have found.:D:D To bad cars were never made this good.
