Is a minn kota all terrain 40# a decent type for a jon boat

Hey guys new to the forums and i just bought a 40# thrust minn kota all terrain for my 16' bass tracker jon boat. I dont know if this is too much for my boat or just right i got it for $50 and its 2 years old (checked the serial#) but is right for my boat. also my outboard is a 20 horse evinrude any info will be helpful

Well, it's nowhere near as powerful as that evinrude.
$50.00 is a perfect size for your jonboat.

Yep, a 40# for a 16 footer is just perfect. I have a 15 foot Loweline jon boat with a Motorguide 46# bowmount that is perfect for my boat for the electric lakes we have here in Rockdale and Newton counties in Georgia. Black Shoals lake in Rockdale and Lake Varner in Newton county are all electric lakes due to the fact they supply water to both counties and you cannot have an outboard on those lakes. A twenty horse is mighty fine for your lake. It will push that bass tracker real good on your closest lake. Just make sure when the boating season is over, you disconnect the gas tank from the motor and run the engine out of all the fuel that is in the fuel line. This way, you will not have any bad gas in your fuel line nor your carb for next season.
