Re: computer to TV cord

That depends.

1 - Is your computer a desktop or laptop?

2 - If it's a laptop, does it have a standard VGA (15 pin connector) monitor output?

3 - What type of TV, older CRT or newer flat screen?

4 - If a newer flat screen, does it have a standard VGA monitor input?

If you can answer a desktop or laptop with VGA output and newer flat screen with VGA input, then all you need is a standard monitor cable. If not, then it's gonna be a little more complicated.

Way to many possible combinations to guess.

Most newer tvs will have either a vga or a hdmi input, mine has both.

We use a DVI to hdmi cable to hook up to the tv.
We use a DVI to vga cable to hook up to the older monitor.

I got that idea a while back. First I tried the VGA connection and it produced a lousy image. I then borrowed the HDMI cable from my BlueRay DVD and used that. My laptop has an HDMI output. The image was outstanding.

The graphics card in the computer will determine picture quality too.

As stated, it depends on both the computer and the TV. I've been building a multimedia center, but haven't bought a flat panel TV yet. I am currently using a digital ready CRT television and obtain signal from both a digital broadcast antenna and an S-Video connection to my media server graphics card.

The S-Video output on the graphics card will treat the TV as just another monitor, so you just have to enable it in Control Panel. In terms of the "monitor," my system is still a bit crude, but it works for now and I want to put a second HD and a TV card in the Puter, before deciding on a screen.

Actually it's been quite dry here for the last month or so and it's sunny today but there's rain in the forecast.

NCIX is good if you need online, but if you are going there (or coming to K-Town), make sure you know what you want and hit Princess Auto first. If they have what you need in the surplus section, it will be a lot cheaper than anywhere else. It's the only time I will buy (usually way overpriced) Monster cables. Just can't check what you need online.
