Re: weird post
Rare but it does happen. I bought a engine that sat in a barn for 10+ years. The owner said it was there when they bought the property, knew nothing about it, just wanted it out of the way. I bought it for next to nothing as a parts motor assuming it was blown or locked up at the very least.
Got it home and it was at least 3-4 months later before I even put it on a stand.... turned it over with a wrench after soaking the cylinders for a few days (never even attempted to turn it before hand...) hooked a battery up and spun it a few times to blow the oil out, put the plugs back in it, squirted some gas in the carb throats and spun it again. It fired within 2-3 seconds...
Pulled one of the float bowls off...clean as a whistle.... hooked a gas can up to it, put the muffs on and ran it for a few seconds.... impeller was in a dozen pieces or so... changed that and the engine ran good but had low compression... stuck it on one of my son's engineless boats and he ran it for a few hours with a heavy dose of seafoam in the gas... compression came up and he's still running that engine today. That was 4 or maybe 5yrs ago.
I've bought many used "sat up" engines and this was the only one that I had such luck with. Most ended up being parted out, one ran after rebuilding the carbs and another pretty much needed the entire ignition system replaced along with a carb rebuild.
Vast majority of the time there's good reason a engine has been left to sit....
