Newbie needs Info

I am new to boating and have a 80's Four winns with a tired 130 hp 3.0 L Merc Looking to freshen it up a bit, but recently was informed that a 5.7l SBC would be able to mount up and replace the existing 4 cylinder. This info seems to be a little far fetched and would like someone to set the record straight and suggest the best route for me to get some extra hp. thanks

Yes it could be done but you would need the matching outdrive,re-do the stringers in the boat to accept the motor mounts of the V-8,Exhaust manifolds,Y pipe,ect,ect.....lots of work and money.

Best bet is to buy another 3.0 for it.

Ayuh,... As noted by Gary,...
1st you'd need to remove Everything painted Black,+ then replace it ALL with a V8 set up...
The Motor, transom assembley,+ the drive...
