What type of hardware are the (2) screws that hold on the trim senders on each side of the drive? Stainless steel? I would like to replace them when I replace the bellows......

Re: Type Of Hardware

I already removed them and loosend the hinge pins in preperation of replacing the bellows.

They were difficult to remove and the heads got damaged in the process, that's why I want to replace them.

So SS it is........might add some antisieze when I install them.

From everything I have read, antiseize is a no-no when it comes to stainless steel and aluminum and salt water. Regular grease works better. It also helps to remove them and grease them again every now and then - before they bond themselves permanently into the aluminum.

I replaced mine with Allen head SS screws. They offer much better grip on the tool than Phillips head screws.

If you do break an old one off, just leave it and drill/tap a new hole. There's tons of material there and the slots in the sender allow huge adjustments in where the hole can go.

The next time you have a problem getting a phillips bit to bite try putting some valve grinding compound on the bit and screw head.Works great.

OK......so grease it is....

I also like the idea of the allen head screws.

Use some Perfect seal or the Permatex Aviation form a gasket. It works great in salt water, better than grease. I have taken senders off 5 years later with no problems.

Re: Type Of Hardware

Just stick with grease on the hinge pins, they move constantly, bolts and screws just set there and try to corrode.
