I currently own a 1990 25hp Johnson short shaft tiller that is in need of repair;

my model number is J25TEESB and I've broken the steering bracket that the tiller controls connect with. How do I go about just removing and replacing the below listed part? Please advise if there is a really easy way that I may not be aware of.

Part number needing replaced:
Part Number: 0335430
Description: BRACKET,STEERING

Thanks for the help.

Is there a possibility you could post some pics to show what exactly is broke?

No pics at this time but picture the bracket in question; it broke near the front connecting point that the tiller control arm would bolt. Spoke to a local welder and because the break occured underneath the cowl area as well he will not weld the item.

Then take the motor apart and bring him the pieces, then what's his excuse?

You have to take it apart anyways to replace it, nes pas?

there is not an easy way. if you are going to do it yourself, best get them OEM Johnson service manual.

I agree with you on that, but it's going to cost the same to weld or replace so why not go back to factory spec. My main issue is how do I reach what appear to be 4 bolts (according to Rude/Johnson pics) w/o tearing down the motor??? Is it possible to replace w/o a motor breakdown or is that the only way to remove the broken steering bracket?

Re: Need Help Please

How much is this gent charging you to weld a bracket, a new one is $168 according to evinrude's site? The bracket is attached to the steering tube, not sure if you need to pull the powerhead but you may have to to gain access to the 4 bolts, don't own a 25, a manual would tell you.

Re: Need Help Please

Welder wants over $100 to do the work and he cannot say for sure if the wled will hold due to location. If possible w/o removing powerhead I would rather just replace, but I may not be able to go that easy. I will talk to a local Rude/Johnson shop on Friday.

Pay the man his hunnerd bucks. Cheap. Used, I'd charge you $150, and mine might break too. I don't see no $168. in my book, but add shipping and you get awful close to two C notes.
