Hey Guys, This is my first post here and it is to ask a question that is no doubt a silly one:eek:

I have to replace the control cables from my 75 model 70hp johnson and have absolutley no idea how to remove the cable from the black plastic linkages.....

Can someone please help me in a way that is good for maintenance challenged individuals!!!!

the cable ends connect to the linkage in your motor, usually there is a small plate that is held by two bolts that hold the ends in place then you remove the nuts/pins that hold the ends to the linkage, you then open your throttle box and the cables just pop out, be sure to properly adjust your cables BEFORE trying to start your motor. sounds like you may need an friend who has some mechanical knowledge to help you out. If you are near Savannah GA, I will help you.

Hey thanks for the reply. I'll be a bit more specific and see if that helps.
I can physically remove the cable but the steel core is stuck inside of the plastic linkage and i cannot get it out.
does it normally just pull out or is there a trick to it??

Ta.

i would love to get your help but i'm all the way in australia :D

There are two opposing set screws in the casing guide. Loosen them and the cable will slide out easily.

i beliee the is talking about the for a better the trunion holder in the control end. it has a plastic insert around the brass holder that fits into the round slot to hold the cable in place. these area gets corroded over the years, and the holder can be extremely hard to get out. take a big screw driver and just pry it out a little at a time, you may bend the cable, but you are replacing it anyway
