I am about to buy a 2001 Pro-Line center console boat. It has a 2002 225 optimax saltwater 2stroke motor with 140 or 170 hours on it. Any recommendations on what i need to look at when I take it for a test drive next saturday? Also feel free to email me at shop_guy65536@yahoo.com

See if you can get a printout from the motors ecu. It will give you all the history of that engine. Run the motor as long as they will let you. Keep and eye on temp and make sure the engine alarm buzzer is hooked up. If it beeps when you turn the key it should be active. Ask when plugs, lower unit serviced. Plugs for Optimax are around$60-100 just for the plugs. I have 225 optimax on my proline and have been very happy with power and especially gas mileage. Just be aware that it has a under cowling water/fuel seperator that needs to be changed quite frequently.-Good Luck

How hard is the water/fuel seperator to change? And how much do they run?
The engine was last serviced Aug 2009 I was told. they showed me paper work of all the work done recently on the boat which wasnt much.

after market fuel sepaerator run about $20.00- factory around 29-30. I brought it up because most owners don't know it is there and forget to change it or check it.
