I am looking at a 35EL79A johnson 35 h.p. that has new fuel pump,new power pack,fresh rebuild on carb new impeller and comes with controls. Sounds strong and cranks up quick. The guy wants $550.00 is it worth that?? Also,it is a long shaft.

That's a good price with controls, if it's what you need for your boat I'd scoop it, so long as the long shaft will work with your rig.

Yes BK I think it is what I need...the long shaft would put the cavatation plate right at the bottom of my transom. Isn't that where it needs to be??

A/V plate even with the bottom of the transom line where it meets the water should do it.

Cool. a 79 35hp huh? What's the compression? Check 'er over real good. She's 31 years old.

Typically, you would measure from the inside of the transome bracket, (where it rests on the boat) down to the A/V plate. Short shafts are 18 - 20 inches and add 5 inches for a long shaft. Like BK says, A/V plate should be even with the keel. I think $550.00 is a good deal on that motor. Then again, sometimes I have motors given to me.
