Hi guys i have a 92 70 hp force that starts and runs great.when i turn it of and sit there for about 1 hour to do my fishing and turn it back on again its hard to start had to crank it like 15 times for it to start. am i suppose to choke it again after 1 or more hours of shutoff or is there a way of starting it easier?
it sounds like it wants to start and just doesnt very frustration in the middle of the ocean speacially when theres big waves :confused::mad: also wondering whot that little black switch is next to kill switch?under key
any help would be greatly appreciated thanks alot

Re: 70 hp hard start when warm

The Force motors can be a bit finicky to start. Here's a procedure that I've found to work pretty good for me.

1. Squeeze the primer bulb 4 or 5 times until it gets firm. (Don't have to do this if the motor has been shutdown for a short period of time).

2. Put the throttle in neutral and push it all the way forward. To engage neutral, pull the throttle handle out towards the middle of the boat. It should move out about a quarter of an inch out away from the body of the control box. Sometimes there is a button on the center of the handle (see item 15 in the attachment) to release it to engage neutral. It'll be pretty obvious if there is a button or if it's just a plastic cover.

3. Push in on the key switch to engage the choke, and turn the key to engage the starter. I only engage the choke for 3 or 4 seconds at the most, otherwise you may flood the motor which really makes it hard to start.

4. As soon as the motor fires, I quickly put my hand on the throttle to reduce the RPM's if necessary. It usually on takes me once or twice maybe three times max for the motor to fire using this technique.

Re: 70 hp hard start when warm

After I've initially started the boat at the ramp (with the choke), I generally don't use it on the first try even after I've been sitting for a few hours. I say "generally". If it doesn't fire on the first try, then I give it a one or two second shot of the choke max. on each subsequent try. Two tries usually takes care of it. Too little choke is easier to work with than too much choke. If you flood the motor, it's much harder to start. The key is to put it into neutral and advance the throttle forward.

You want to make sure your ignition system is in good working order. Good plugs, correct type of plug, good wires etc. Make sure the ground wire between the coil mounting plate and the block is making good contact.
