ANY TIPS WOULD BE GREAT!

To answer your question, though, there is a template for the mounting of the transom assembly.
For locating the front motor mount there is a JIG that is slid into the transom assy after it has been installed on the boat. It mimics the motor and mounts without the bulk of the motor. They are very expencive.
Have you calculated your boats X dimension? You need to know that in order to properly place the transom assy in the transom. Once that is done, if you don't have a motor JIG, you will have to install the motor and "hang" it in the front, then align the motor to the transom assy using an engine alignment tool. Once you have the engine aligned, then you can get in there and figure where you need to put your cross brace, and how tall it needs to be. You have to do it like this because of the limited amount of adjustment you have for engine alignment.
Also, and this is very important, support the boat trailer on jackstands in the rear. Otherwise, when you get into the boat after getting it all aligned your weight will settle the trailer springs throwing off your alignment.

You can find service manuals in the permanent "sticky's" at the top of the main I/O forum.

One "tip" though......BIG mistake replacing a V-8 with ANY 4 cyl engine. The boat is gonna be a real "DOG"!

And if you're replacing the V-8 with a 3.7L "470" Mercruiser engine.......

That's an even BIGGER mistake!

Good luck!

Ayuh,... Talk about jumpin' from the fryin' pan into the Fire,....

You guys know,... That's always been my Dream driveline,..... a 470/ Stringer drive,....
ANY TIPS WOULD BE GREAT!
As explained by hbm,... I hang the motor off an alignment bar through the gimbel,+ build the motor mounts Up to where they gotta be...

For transom cut-out, I use a salvaged cut-out panel from a scrapped hull...
