one question I took the lower unit off my 1984 7.5HP Mercury and to find only one vaine lift on the impeller where could of the other pieces of gone should I beware and find these other 5 pieces will they clog any thing and where should I start to look. Thanks Bob

yep, they've travelled up through the cooling passages. Who knows where they are now. Did the engine still stream water out of the tell tale last time you ran it? If so then the passages aren't blocked.

You can try taking a garden hose, place your thumb over the nozzel to increase pressure, and spray up the water passage in the leg to try and loosen up any blockages. You can also try this the reverse through the output for the tale tell and spray backwards through the cooling system.

Another option is to remove the thermostat and check for anything stuck up in there.

does a 7.5 have a thermstat and no water it was in a drum when it happened it first had a good stream and then just nothing, and I guess with only one vane left it couldn't pump period. Thanks Bob
