I was given a 5 gallon bucket of Polyester and Vinyl resin and I have a couple questions about it.

1. I have never even heard of this before, what is it?

2. I tried a coat on my deck today, and after 4 hours it still was tacky. does it take a while to dry?

3. are there any special tricks using it?

thanks guys.

Re: Fiberglass question

Was there a label on the container that described the product? Were there any storage instructions? Was there a catalyst? Did you use the correct amount? Is the product old? Was it ever frozen or stored for long periods in the heat? It is a perishable product and has a shelf life accelerated by improper storage resulting in deteriorated performance as I have earlier indicated. I am wondering why you "tried a coat on your deck". Was it to increase the sheen? The resin, when in good condition, is used to impregnate glass cloth and will cure very brittle. In thin coats, or without the reinforcement of glass cloth, it will crack and craze rapidly and typically is not recommended as a top or finish coat. Application of this type product, when applied stand-alone, to a boat deck in this case, will experience flex and is most certain to expedite rapid cosmetic deterioration. If it is still tacky, I think I'd do my best to remove it. You can use acetone, but read the hazardous warning label before use.
