Painting Mercruiser Exhaust Manifolds

Hello,

I just acquired a pair of Mercruiser center-riser exhaust manifolds that are fresh water cooled. I stripped them to bare metal and then painted them with rustoleum 2000 degree high heat paint. I am looking to add a clear coat and I cannot find any high heat clear coat at autozone or any other auto parts store. I am wondering if the 500 degree clear coat paint will be good enough to coat these manifolds.

Basically, what I want to know is, how hot do water cooled exhaust manifolds actually get? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ayuh,... Not Very,....100? or so.... Plain ole Rustoleum holds up Just Fine....

That gentleman is correct.
The day the engine's cooling system fails, it won't matter what paint in on the manifolds.

Regular Dupli-color clear would hold up just fine.

Dont listen to the nay sayer. I would add a nice pearl clear and some metal flake...

and so what would be wrong with it if someone perhaps... um... ..added a little silver shimmer pearl to the first couple of coats of clear when doing a coat of polished aluminum exhaust manifolds???

Why not paint flames on the mannys? That would really make them look hot!
